Kendrick Lamar’s performance at Super Bowl Halftime Show with SZA has caused a massive spike in his streaming numbers, making him the most-streamed artist on Spotify.
The rapper’s track “Not Like Us,” which also sparked a feud with Drake, topped both the U.S. and global charts, with over 11 million streams on February 10 alone.
A Historic Spotify Takeover
Lamar didn’t just dominate with one song. He secured the top six spots on the U.S. Spotify daily charts on February 10, including his collaborations with SZA like “luther,” “tv off,” and “All The Stars.” He even had several of his older hits, such as “HUMBLE” and “Money Trees,” re-enter the chart, ranking at No. 12 and No. 17.
On the same day, Lamar was the No. 1 most-streamed artist globally, while SZA followed closely at No. 2 in the U.S. and No. 4 globally.
Massive Increases in Streams
After the Super Bowl performance, Lamar’s entire catalog saw a 175% surge in streams, with some songs like “Not Like Us” spiking by an incredible 430%.
Other tracks like “All The Stars” and “DNA.” also saw substantial increases of around 290% and 260%, respectively. SZA’s songs experienced a similar 80% surge in streams.
Lamar’s Continued Success Across Platforms
In addition to his Spotify success, Lamar’s single “Not Like Us” topped the Apple Music songs chart in both the U.S. and globally. His albums “GNX” and “DAMN.” also ranked No. 1 and No. 2 on iTunes, showcasing the continued momentum from his Super Bowl performance.
A Huge Viewership Boost
Lamar’s Super Bowl performance also caused a huge spike in views. The NFL’s YouTube upload of his performance reached an impressive 32 million views, quickly catching up to Usher’s performance from last year. This places Lamar ahead of performances from stars like Justin Timberlake and Maroon 5.
Super Bowl: A Lucrative Platform for Artists
Although the Super Bowl Halftime Show is an unpaid gig, it remains one of the best opportunities for artists to gain exposure and boost their streaming numbers.
Past performers like Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, and Lady Gaga have all experienced significant spikes in streams and album sales following their shows. For Lamar, this performance came shortly after the release of his latest album, GNX, and was followed by an announcement for new joint tour dates with SZA.
With his Super Bowl performance, Kendrick Lamar has cemented his place at the top of the charts and continues to dominate streaming platforms.
