Rapper Kanye West and music producer Sean “Diddy” Combs are reportedly working on new music together, despite both artists facing significant legal and public relations challenges.
According to sources quoted by entertainment media, the collaboration could result in a full song or even an album. The reports come months after West previewed a track in March that featured audio of Combs recorded during a phone call while he was detained at a Brooklyn facility.
Combs was found guilty this week on charges of transportation to engage in prostitution, though he was acquitted of more serious federal charges including sex trafficking and racketeering. He faces up to 20 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for Tuesday, 8 July.
An unnamed source told entertainment outlet Page Six that the two artists view music as a form of redemption. “Music was a salvation for him, Diddy, like it was for Ye,” the source said, referring to West by his legal name.
The collaboration comes as both artists face intense scrutiny. West has been embroiled in controversy following antisemitic remarks and public statements supporting Adolf Hitler. He has been banned from entering Australia after releasing a song that glorifies the Nazi leader.
Combs was arrested in September 2024 on federal charges and has been awaiting trial. During the March phone call featured on West’s track, Combs reportedly warned: “You be careful out there ’cause they definitely trying to end us.”
A former federal prosecutor has warned that despite his acquittal on the most serious charges, Combs could still face a harsh sentence when he appears in court next week.
Neither West nor Combs has officially confirmed the reported collaboration.
