Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 has officially begun as part of the Winter 2026 anime lineup, and its director is already teasing a powerful ending that will leave a strong impact on viewers.

Season 3 adapts the Culling Game arc, where sorcerers are forced into a deadly battle royale created by Kenjaku. According to the creators, this season will be even more intense than the Shibuya Incident Arc. The season will be released in two parts, though details about Part 2 have not yet been announced.

The anime’s popularity continues to grow. The creditless opening theme video passed 10 million views on YouTube in under 10 days, showing just how strong fan interest is.

Director Explains the Season 3 Opening

Shōta Goshozono, the director of Jujutsu Kaisen Seasons 2 and 3, shared a message on the anime’s official website explaining his vision for Season 3—especially its opening sequence.

Goshozono said the opening focuses on the tension between old and new characters, all brought together by Kenjaku’s plan. He also explained how the story builds on the events of Shibuya.

“In the Shibuya Incident, the culture of Shibuya was crushed,” Goshozono said. “This season depicts Yuji’s resurgence from that point.”

He added that the Culling Game reflects the clash between past and present, as ancient sorcerers return and Kenjaku pushes toward new possibilities.

“Like a Bomb Dropping at the End”

Goshozono also explained why the opening ends so suddenly.

Because Season 3 is split into parts, he wanted the opening to expand the story instead of resolving it. He described the ending of the opening sequence as being “like a bomb dropping at the end,” meant to shock viewers and leave a lasting impression.

The opening visuals mix intense action with brief comedic moments involving Yuji, Takaba, and Megumi. This balance reflects the series’ dark themes while keeping its humor intact.

With its strong start and bold creative choices, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is shaping up to be one of the biggest anime events of the year.
