Paramount Pictures has announced the stars and release date for its upcoming K-pop film from HYBE America, with Ji-young Yoo and Eric Nam set to lead the cast.
The untitled movie, directed by Benson Lee and written by Eileen Shim, will open in North American theaters on February 12, 2027, during the Presidents Day/Valentine’s Day weekend. The film is expected to be the first major American studio production shot entirely in South Korea.
Set in the world of K-pop music survival shows, the story follows “a young Korean-American woman, who defies her family’s wishes to compete in a televised competition to find the next K-pop girl group,” according to the official logline.
Yoo recently gained attention voicing Zoey, a member of K-pop girl group Huntrix, in Netflix’s “KPop Demon Hunters,” which has become a streaming hit. Several songs from that project have reached the Billboard Hot 100 and topped Spotify charts.
Nam is well-established in the K-pop industry, having launched his music career through MBC’s “Star Audition: Birth of a Great Star 2.” He was an original host of K-pop talk show “After School Club” and frequently appeared on Korean variety shows. He is also set to appear on season four of Peacock’s “The Traitors.”
“This film is my love letter to K-pop – its energy, passion, magic, and the incredible community behind it,” Lee said in a statement.
Hybe America’s James Shin is producing alongside Arthur Spector and Joshua Davis of Epic Magazine and Scooter Braun. Hybe America is the U.S. branch of the K-pop giant that manages major acts including BTS, Seventeen, Le Sserafim and Enhypen.
The February 2027 release will compete against TriStar’s “The Nightingale,” starring Elle and Dakota Fanning, which was also announced for the same weekend.
