Jennifer Lopez Says She Hasn’t Experienced ‘True Love’ in Life

Jennifer Lopez opened up about her experiences with love and relationships during an interview on Howard Stern’s radio show on October 15. The Kiss of the Spider Woman star, 56, said she has never truly been loved, though she has loved others.

“Do you think you’ve truly been loved?” Stern asked. Lopez paused before replying, “No,” adding, “What I learned, it’s not that I’m not lovable — it’s that they’re not capable.” She said her partners gave her everything materially but lacked emotional depth.

Lopez reflected on her own struggles, admitting part of the issue was that she “didn’t love myself” at the time. She said her divorces, particularly the most recent one from Ben Affleck, prompted her to seek therapy and coaching to understand herself and her relationships.

“I had a religious coach, I had a therapist, a couple’s therapist, an individual therapist, I had a coach to understand addiction,” she explained. “I was like, ‘I’m gonna figure this out if it kills me.'” She said this journey helped her realize that the “core of the thing is you — it’s nobody else.”

Lopez has been married and divorced four times. She shares 17-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony. Her most recent divorce from Affleck, finalized in 2025, gave her clarity and self-assurance, she said.

“Now I’m able to sit here in a much more self-assured, self-aware way of the things that have happened to me,” Lopez said. “I feel really comfortable and good in being myself, all the good parts and all the kind of complicated things.”

Stern asked if she had found glimpses of true love, to which Lopez replied, “Glimpses.” The interview highlights her reflections on personal growth and understanding what love truly means.
