Actor, rapper, and activist Jaden Smith has announced plans to open a new restaurant based on his popular “I Love You” food truck initiative, which serves free meals to homeless people funded by paying customers.
The restaurant will operate on a “pay-it-forward” model: homeless individuals eat free, while paying customers cover their own meal plus extra to fund the next person’s meal. Smith explained to Variety, “If you’re not homeless, not only do you have to pay, but you have to pay for more than the food’s worth so that you can pay for the person behind you.”
This initiative expands on Smith’s 2019 I Love You vegan food truck program, which provided sustainable, plant-based meals to thousands of unhoused residents in Los Angeles’s Skid Row. Meals included healthy options like kale and carrots, all given freely with dignity and compassion.
Jaden Smith described the movement on Instagram as “all about giving people what they deserve—healthy, vegan food for free.” The new brick-and-mortar restaurant aims to offer a permanent community space dedicated to nourishment and empowerment.
Even Jaden’s father, Will Smith, praised the project, celebrating its launch back in 2019 as a meaningful way to give back.
Though the restaurant’s official opening date and location are yet to be announced, many fans and advocates for social good eagerly anticipate the arrival of this innovative dining concept.
At a time when food insecurity and homelessness are pressing challenges across the US, Smith’s I Love You Restaurant offers a compassionate, creative solution—turning every meal into an act of kindness and hope.
