As Superman’s release date approaches, new leaks have surfaced about the movie’s early internal test screenings.
According to a trusted source, the upcoming DCU reboot of Superman has drawn mixed reviews, reflecting the difficulty of adapting the iconic superhero for today’s audiences.
James Gunn, known for his successful work in both Marvel and DC, has a strong track record, but Superman’s character has always been a challenge.
Some see the Man of Steel as outdated and too powerful for modern stories, which could make it tough for the movie to win over all fans.
According to the leak from @MyTimeToShineH, an individual who attended a test screening rated Superman 7.5/10.
While this isn’t a terrible score, it does show that the film is far from perfect. To put it into perspective, this person rated Gunn’s other superhero projects as follows:
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 – 9/10
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – 7/10
- Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – 7.5/10
- Peacemaker – 8/10
- The Suicide Squad – 9/10
- Creature Commandos – 7.5/10
With these ratings, it seems that Gunn’s work with the Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy films still stands out as the best.
However, Superman’s score suggests that while it’s not bad, it doesn’t fully meet the high standards set by Gunn’s past hits.
As the first big feature of the new DC Universe, Superman’s success is crucial. DC Studios is clearly aware of this, as marketing expert Ricky Strauss has been brought in to assist with the film’s promotion.
There’s speculation that the movie may skip public test screenings, meaning official reviews may not come until closer to its release in late June or early July.
Starring David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, the movie promises to blend action, humor, and heart, staying true to Gunn’s signature style.
Fans will get their first look at this reboot when Superman soars into theaters on July 11, 2025.
