iPhone SE 4 Rumors: Modern Design, OLED Display, and A18 Chip

Apple’s iPhone SE series has long been the best budget option for those who want iOS without the premium price tag.

With the fourth-generation iPhone SE rumored to be Apple’s biggest SE upgrade yet, many are wondering whether it’s worth waiting for. Here’s what we know so far.

A Big Design Upgrade

Leaks suggest Apple is ditching the 4.7-inch design with thick bezels and a Home button, replacing it with a modern iPhone 14-like design featuring flat edges and a 6.1-inch OLED display.

This means a notch instead of a Home button and an Action Button replacing the mute switch. While the SE 4 is expected to keep a single rear camera, the design update alone makes it a big leap forward.

A Much-Needed OLED Display

One of the biggest complaints about past SE models was the outdated LCD screen. The SE 4 is expected to feature a 6.1-inch OLED panel with a 2532 × 1170 resolution and 1200 nits brightness.

While it won’t have ProMotion (120Hz refresh rate), the shift to OLED will bring deeper blacks and better colors.

The SE series has always used Apple’s latest chips, and this time is no different. Reports say the SE 4 will feature the A18 chip—the same as in the iPhone 16.

With a larger body, Apple could fit a bigger battery—possibly around 3,279 mAh, similar to the iPhone 14. Charging speeds may also improve, with rumors suggesting MagSafe wireless charging in addition to faster wired charging.

5G Modem and USB-C

Apple is reportedly testing its own 5G modem (codenamed “Centauri”) for the SE 4. While this could mean better optimization, first-gen Apple hardware can sometimes have connectivity issues. On the bright side, USB-C is almost certain, aligning with Apple’s switch across its lineup.

Camera Upgrades

The SE 4 is rumored to feature a single 48MP rear camera, a huge jump from the 12MP sensor in the SE 3. Expect better low-light performance and sharper images.

The front camera will likely stay at 12MP. While the lack of a dual-camera setup might be disappointing, the new sensor should deliver significant improvements.

The SE 3 launched at $429, but with all these upgrades, a price increase seems likely. Reports suggest the SE 4 could start at $499.
