The upcoming iPhone 17 is rumored to have a bigger screen, growing from 6.1 inches on the iPhone 16 to 6.3 inches, matching the size of the Pro version.
However, according to analyst Jeff Pu of GF Securities, the phone will keep the same processor and RAM as its predecessor.
The iPhone 17 is expected to run on the A18 chip and come with 8GB of RAM, just like the iPhone 16.
This contrasts with the other models in the lineup—the iPhone 17 Pro, Air, and Pro Max—which are set to get the newer A19 chip and 12GB of RAM.
At one point, Apple considered increasing the memory for the iPhone 17 but decided against it. Keeping the chip and RAM the same could limit the phone’s appeal, possibly pushing buyers toward the higher-end models.
With only a slight increase in screen size and no major internal upgrades, the iPhone 17 may feel like a modest update rather than a must-have upgrade for many users.
