Interactive ‘Study Together’ Feature in ChatGPT Offers Step-by-Step Learning

OpenAI is quietly testing a new “Study Together” feature in ChatGPT that aims to change how students study. This interactive mode lets the AI ask questions, give feedback, and guide users step-by-step through topics, creating a more engaging learning experience.

Unlike the usual ChatGPT chats where users ask questions and get answers, “Study Together” encourages active participation. The AI breaks down complex subjects into smaller parts and checks students’ answers as they progress. Some reports suggest the feature may also allow friends to study together online, though this is not confirmed.

The feature has appeared in limited tests since May 2025 and is gradually becoming visible to more users. However, OpenAI has not officially announced the full details or a release date. It currently shows up as a button alongside other tools like image generation and web browsing in some versions of ChatGPT.

This development is part of OpenAI’s broader plan to expand ChatGPT’s use in education and work. Along with “Study Together,” OpenAI is adding new connectors to tools like Slack, Gmail, and Canva, which will help users access information and create content more easily across different platforms.

Experts say “Study Together” could disrupt traditional online learning by offering students a more interactive and personalised way to prepare for exams. OpenAI’s move comes as it competes with other AI companies and prepares to launch the much-anticipated GPT-5.
