Jennifer Aniston opened up about the struggles of helping her Friends co-star Matthew Perry with addiction before his death in a recent interview.

Perry passed away on October 28, 2023, at his Los Angeles home. The autopsy revealed he died from acute effects of ketamine, with drowning, heart disease, and medication for opioid treatment as contributing factors.

Aniston said she and the Friends cast did all they could to support Perry during his battle with addiction. She shared, “It almost felt like we’d been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight.”

She added with sadness, “There’s a part of me that thinks this is better. I’m glad he’s out of that pain.”

After Perry’s death, fans took to social media to express grief, with many turning to Friends episodes for comfort. The cast released a joint statement calling Perry “family” and saying they are devastated by the loss.

Jennifer Aniston and her co-stars said they will take time to grieve and support Perry’s loved ones.
