Ice Cube has revealed that his scenes for the new sci-fi thriller “War of the Worlds” were filmed in just 15 days under strict COVID-19 restrictions.

In an interview with streamer Kai Cenat, the rapper and actor said production took place in 2020, when health protocols forced him to work without the director or other cast members present.

“The director wasn’t in there. None of the actors was in there. This was the only way we could really shoot the movie,” Ice Cube explained.

The project faced a long road to release. Originally produced by Universal, the film was later sold to Amazon, which delayed its debut as the remaining footage was collected and edited. Much of the movie uses real surveillance camera clips from around the world to create its global disaster setting.

Loosely based on H.G. Wells’ classic novel, War of the Worlds stars Ice Cube as William Radford, a computer security analyst caught in an alien invasion. The cast also includes Eva Longoria, Iman Benson, Henry Hunter Hall, Clark Gregg, and Devon Bostick.

The film premiered on Amazon on July 30 and quickly became a hit, topping the streamer’s most-watched list in 30 countries during its first week.
