How One Solo Founder Built and Sold an AI App for $300K Using ChatGPT

A solo developer has turned a weekend idea into a $300,000 business sale using ChatGPT and other AI tools. Without a team or outside funding, the founder built a niche web app—an AI-powered writing assistant for cold emails—designed specifically for solo marketers.

The developer used ChatGPT to write most of the code, all the onboarding flows, and 100% of the copy. The AI handled backend logic such as payments, user authentication, and error handling through a Flask backend. The founder collaborated closely with ChatGPT, debugging and refining code in a process similar to pair programming.

The app’s user interface and copy were also created with ChatGPT’s help, resulting in a clean, mobile-friendly design and engaging text that felt natural rather than robotic.

Throughout development, ChatGPT served as a full-stack debugger and product tester, quickly identifying and resolving bugs reported by users. Additional tools like Claude and Gemini were used for quality assurance.

To manage the complex interaction with AI prompts and maintain prompt “hygiene,” the developer used Chatronix—a tool that tracks and organizes AI prompts and responses. This saved valuable time, preserved key logic, and produced clear documentation that helped secure the sale.

The timeline was fast: within the first week, a minimum viable product (MVP) was ready. By the second week, the app had 100 users and some revenue. A viral tweet helped the app reach $6,000 monthly recurring revenue in two months. After three months, a U.S.-based SaaS company acquired the app for $300,000 following two calls and a signed term sheet—no pitch deck or venture capital involved.

The developer advises solo founders to focus on sharp execution in niche areas, maintain clean prompt workflows, and treat AI as a true build partner.

This case highlights how AI tools like ChatGPT can enable solo entrepreneurs to rapidly build, refine, and sell software products with minimal resources.
