House Crushes Trump Impeachment Effort 344-79 Over Iran Strikes

The U.S. House of Representatives voted overwhelmingly to reject an impeachment resolution against former President Donald Trump on Tuesday. The vote was 344 against and 79 in favor of the measure.

Democratic Representative Al Green of Texas introduced the resolution. He accused Trump of abusing his power by ordering military strikes on Iran without getting approval from Congress first.

Constitutional Concerns Raised

Green argued that Trump violated the Constitution’s War Powers Clause. He said no single person should have the power to take the country to war without consulting Congress.

The strikes targeted Iranian nuclear sites amid rising tensions in the Middle East. The military action raised questions about whether the president acted legally without congressional authorization.

Democrats Split on Vote

Most Democrats joined Republicans in voting to block the impeachment effort. Among Democrats, 128 voted against the resolution while 79 supported it.

Key Democratic leaders opposed the measure. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi both voted against it, calling the resolution a distraction.

Leadership Responds

House Speaker Mike Johnson said it was not the right time for political moves like impeachment. He also dismissed calls for a War Powers resolution.

Congress members are scheduled to receive classified briefings on U.S. involvement in Iran in the coming days.

Bipartisan Opposition

The decisive vote shows bipartisan reluctance to pursue impeachment over the Iran strikes. Even with constitutional concerns about presidential war powers, lawmakers chose not to move forward with the impeachment process.

The vote demonstrates that impeachment remains a politically difficult path, even when questions arise about the limits of executive power during military conflicts.
