Maisie Williams as Arya Stark in Game of Thrones

HBO is developing a new Game of Thrones sequel series centered on Arya Stark, with Maisie Williams expected to reprise her role. The project follows the cancellation of the Jon Snow spin-off, which reportedly struggled with a darker post-series storyline.

The Arya-led series will explore her journey beyond the known lands of Westeros. Unlike the somber tone planned for Jon Snow, the new show is envisioned as an adventurous quest that could take Arya to the Mediterranean-inspired lands of Essos or entirely new continents.

Writer Quoc Dang Tran, known for the series Drops of God, is leading the project. His involvement promises a fresh creative direction for the franchise, marking the first true chronological sequel to the original series.

The series is still in early development and has not been officially greenlit. Fans are already excited about Williams’ return, which would continue the story of one of the original series’ most popular characters.

This development comes as HBO continues to expand the Game of Thrones universe. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres this month, and House of the Dragon Season 3 is set for summer 2026.

By shifting focus to Arya, HBO is moving away from darker narratives toward high-stakes exploration and adventure, opening new storytelling possibilities for Westeros and beyond.

The Arya Stark project signals HBO’s commitment to building a long-term future for the franchise while keeping familiar characters at the heart of new stories.
