The release of the new GTA 6 trailer has helped boost downloads of GTA V, according to PlayStation’s latest game charts for May.
GTA V climbed several spots in the download rankings on both PS5 and PS4 in the US, Canada, and Europe. The trailer’s excitement brought many players back to GTA Online, even without new game content.
Meanwhile, Rockstar’s popular western game, Red Dead Redemption 2, lost its position as the most downloaded PS4 game after holding the spot for five months.
Star Wars Battlefront II, an older game, rose in popularity and took first place on the charts in both the US/Canada and Europe.
A recent report from analytics firm Ampere also showed interesting trends in player habits. GTA V reached 20 million monthly active users in April, the highest since June 2022.
The report noted that many GTA Online players also play Minecraft, though gaming hours among new Minecraft players in GTA Online dropped by 19%.
Overall, the GTA 6 trailer has reignited interest in GTA V and GTA Online, while Red Dead Redemption 2 faces tough competition from other classic titles. Fans will be watching closely to see if Red Dead 2 can regain the top spot next month.
