Rockstar Games has officially postponed the release of Grand Theft Auto VI to May 26, 2026, moving it from the previously anticipated fall 2025 launch.
The company stated that the delay aims to ensure the game meets high-quality standards and to provide a healthier work environment for its developers.
Industry journalist Jason Schreier reported that many Rockstar employees had long doubted the feasibility of the original 2025 release window.
He noted that the development team faced “too much work, not enough time,” and that management showed a genuine desire to avoid the intense “crunch” periods that have previously affected the company.
This delay marks nearly 12 years since the release of Grand Theft Auto V in 2013. The upcoming installment is set in a fictional version of Florida called Leonida and features protagonists Lucia and a male companion engaging in classic GTA-style criminal escapades.
While fans may be disappointed by the extended wait, many appreciate Rockstar’s commitment to both game quality and employee well-being.
