Sales of Tesla’s Cybertruck have fallen sharply, with the GMC Hummer EV outselling it in the second quarter of 2025.
According to data from Cox Automotive, Tesla sold 4,306 Cybertrucks between April and June. Meanwhile, GMC sold 4,508 Hummer EVs during the same period.
Both electric trucks were outsold by Ford’s F-150 Lightning, which sold 5,842 units in the second quarter. However, this was Ford’s lowest quarterly total in over a year.
The Hummer EV sales figure includes both its pickup truck and SUV models, which are very similar in design.
Other electric trucks are also facing challenges. Rivian’s R1T sales dropped to 1,752 units last quarter, down from 3,309 the previous year.
Tesla’s Cybertruck saw its highest sales in the third quarter of 2024 with nearly 17,000 units sold. Since then, sales have declined sharply.
Reasons for the Cybertruck’s sales drop may include its high price, which is well above the $40,000 originally promised in 2019, and negative publicity linked to Elon Musk’s political involvement.
Tesla had once predicted producing 250,000 Cybertrucks annually, but now the company has large unused capacity at its Texas factory.
Elon Musk has admitted that the company may have made mistakes with the Cybertruck, saying, “We dug our own grave with Cybertruck.”
