Giants Go All-In With Reported John Harbaugh Coaching Deal

The New York Giants are reportedly finalizing a deal to hire John Harbaugh as their next head coach. If completed, the move would mark a major shift for the franchise as it looks to reset after several losing seasons.

Harbaugh most recently coached the Baltimore Ravens, where he spent 18 years and became the winningest head coach in team history. He was fired on January 6 after the Ravens lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers to end the 2025 season.

The Giants have not confirmed contract details, but reports suggest Harbaugh could earn up to $20 million per year. That figure would place him among the highest-paid head coaches in the NFL.

Before his dismissal, Harbaugh was the league’s third highest-paid coach. The Ravens extended his contract in March, with a reported salary of about $17 million per season and one year remaining on the deal.

Harbaugh is expected to replace Brian Daboll, who was fired 10 games into the 2025 season. Daboll initially found success with the Giants but struggled to maintain it in the following years.

After a promising 2022 season that included a playoff win, the Giants sharply declined. The team finished 3–14 in 2024 and followed it with a 4–13 record in 2025.

Harbaugh formally interviewed with Giants ownership this week, with team leaders present. His arrival would signal a serious push to rebuild the team around experienced leadership.

A new deal for Harbaugh could also impact the broader coaching market. Any salary increase may raise expectations for other top coaches, including his brother Jim Harbaugh, who currently coaches the Los Angeles Chargers.
