French President Emmanuel Macron’s choice of sunglasses at the World Economic Forum in Davos gave a surprising boost to the maker’s stock.
The Italian company iVision Tech, which owns the French eyewear brand Henry Jullien, saw its stock rise 28% Thursday. The increase added about $4.1 million to the company’s market value.
Macron wore a pair of Pacific S 01 Double Gold sunglasses, priced at around €659 ($775). He has owned a pair since 2024 and bought another for himself, the company said.
The president said he used the glasses to cover a subconjunctival hemorrhage, a burst blood vessel in his right eye, which he described as “totally benign.”
The look quickly became a meme online, with Macron photoshopped into posters for “Top Gun,” “Cobra,” and “Terminator.” President Donald Trump also joked about the glasses.
Henry Jullien produces about 1,000 pairs of this model each year at its small factory north of Geneva. Each pair is hand-assembled using an older gold-bolding technique, making them rare and expensive.
The sudden attention caused Henry Jullien’s website to crash for most of the day, showing the strong public interest in Macron’s fashion choice.
