A former close associate of Donald Trump has raised concerns about the former president’s mental health, saying Trump is showing signs of “unraveling” after publicly criticizing his own supporters.
Lev Parnas, who worked with Trump’s White House team, wrote on Substack that Trump made a “big mistake” by attacking his MAGA base. In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump called some of his supporters “irrelevant” and “weaklings.”
Parnas said Trump also insulted his followers during a White House press event, calling them “foolish” and “duped” over what Trump refers to as the “Epstein hoax.”
According to Parnas, these attacks reflect a deeper problem with Trump’s mental state. He said Trump’s closest allies are beginning to admit that the former president is showing signs of cognitive decline or delusion.
Parnas pointed out that Trump recently forgot he nominated Jerome Powell as Federal Reserve Chair and instead blamed President Joe Biden for the economy’s problems.
Polling data backs up the claims of a fracturing base. A Quinnipiac poll found that 63% of all voters disapprove of Trump’s handling of the Epstein investigation, including 40% of Republicans.
Parnas described Trump’s reaction as “rage,” “projection,” and launching attacks in response to the growing dissatisfaction within his own party.
