Netflix has confirmed that Forever, based on Judy Blume’s 1975 novel, will arrive in 2025. A teaser trailer has also been released.
The series follows Keisha and Justin, two Black teenagers experiencing their first love. Their romance is strong, but when they are apart for the summer, Keisha starts to fall for someone else. The story explores love, identity, and what “forever” really means.
Blume’s novel was controversial in the 1970s due to its frank discussion of teen sexuality. It won the Margaret Edwards Award in 1996 and was previously adapted into a TV movie in 1978.
Filmmaker Mara Brock Akil (Girlfriends, Being Mary Jane) serves as showrunner. Regina King is an executive producer and directs the first episode. Judy Blume is also involved as an executive producer.
Netflix has confirmed the main cast:
Filming began in April 2024 in Los Angeles after delays caused by Hollywood strikes. It wrapped in July 2024. The episode count is unknown, but each episode will be around 60 minutes.
Netflix confirmed the 2025 release at its Next on Netflix event.
