Football Manager is about to get more realistic than ever. Sports Interactive, the studio behind the popular football management game, has signed a major multi-year deal with FIFA that brings official World Cup licensing to Football Manager 2026 (FM26).
The agreement, announced on Friday, starts with the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. For the first time, players will be able to manage fully licensed national teams with real kits, stadiums, logos, and authentic broadcast graphics. The partnership also includes the Women’s World Cup and the expanded Club World Cup, giving players access to a complete range of FIFA competitions.
“We’re thrilled to partner with FIFA to bring these legendary tournaments to life in Football Manager,” said studio director Miles Jacobson. “Fans have been asking for this for years. Now, managing the U.S. men’s team or guiding Australia’s women’s team to victory will feel just like the real thing.”
FM26 will also receive a major free update in early 2026 to improve international management. Players will be able to lead their countries through real qualification campaigns, friendlies, and World Cup tournaments that match the actual calendar. Jacobson said the update will give players “the full journey—from early scouting to final penalties.”
The announcement comes ahead of the first-ever tri-nation World Cup in 2026, hosted across 16 cities from Vancouver to Miami. FM26 will let gamers experience it all, including realistic pitch and weather conditions in each venue.
Fans reacted quickly online, making #FM26 trend worldwide within hours. Many praised the new realism, with one fan writing, “Finally—no more fake team names!” Analysts expect the deal to boost sales for Football Manager 2026, possibly surpassing the 1.5 million units sold by FM24.
However, some longtime players expressed concern that the FIFA partnership could make the game too commercial. Others hope that club leagues like the Premier League and La Liga will receive similar licensing improvements in the future.
Sports Interactive has promised more announcements soon. With FM26 set for release in November 2025, players around the world are already preparing to chase virtual World Cup glory.
