First Barbie with Type 1 Diabetes Set to Launch, Promoting Awareness

Mattel has announced the release of its first-ever Barbie doll with Type 1 diabetes, marking a major step toward greater inclusivity in children’s toys.

The new doll is equipped with realistic accessories including a glucose monitor and an insulin pump, designed to reflect the daily reality of managing the condition.

The initiative is part of Mattel’s broader effort to diversify its Barbie lineup and create dolls that represent a wide range of experiences.

By introducing a doll with Type 1 diabetes, the company hopes to raise awareness and foster understanding among children and families.

“This Barbie is more than just a toy—it’s a reflection of real life for many kids,” a Mattel spokesperson said. “We want every child to see themselves in the toys they play with.”

The new doll is expected to hit store shelves later this year.
