Finn Wolfhard, best known for playing Mike Wheeler on Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things, has announced a major career shift following the show’s finale on December 31, 2025. The actor plans to focus more on his music career and screenwriting, while remaining selective about future acting roles.

Speaking to Esquire, Wolfhard said, “I have nothing on the books officially for acting… I definitely want to pursue it only if it’s something that I’m really in love with.” He added that he plans to tour with his band and record new music written over the past two years.

Wolfhard’s acting career began in 2014 with an episode of The 100, followed by Supernatural in 2015. His role as Mike Wheeler on Stranger Things launched him to international fame. Since then, he has appeared in films such as It, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, and participated in projects like the King of the Hill revival.

Reflecting on the series’ conclusion, Wolfhard described the final day of filming as emotional and surreal. He recalled seeing hundreds of crew members together after ten years of work, realizing that the series was officially ending.

Fans will still see Wolfhard on-screen soon. He is set to host Saturday Night Live on January 17, 2026, with musical guest A$AP Rocky.

Wolfhard is also co-writing a screenplay about the rock band The Replacements with his father, Eric Wolfhard. The project will explore the band’s early struggles and the challenges of growing up in a turbulent musical environment.

Stranger Things is available to stream in full on Netflix, marking the end of a decade-long cultural phenomenon while Wolfhard embarks on his next creative chapter.
