Bukayo Saka caused a stir during the pre-race F1 grid walk at the Spanish Grand Prix. When Sky Sports presenter Simon Lazenby approached the Arsenal winger to ask a quick question, Saka gave a brief reply and shook his head, saying, “Not much to say.”
The interaction was caught live, and former Formula 1 world champion Nico Rosberg commented afterward that Saka was “not very friendly.”
Saka was on the grid with his England teammates ahead of their World Cup qualifier in Andorra on June 6. While England captain Harry Kane spoke warmly about his interest in the race and favorite drivers, Saka’s short response left viewers divided.
On social media, some fans defended Saka, saying he was on holiday and not obligated to speak to reporters. One user wrote, “Poor bloke having a nice time, shoved in his face. His choice. Leave him alone.” Others agreed that not all athletes want to engage with media on the grid.
However, some viewers felt Saka could have taken a moment to respond more politely. One comment read, “As a celebrity on the F1 grid, he should expect to be asked questions. It would have taken 10 seconds to say something.“
Another viewer added, “No idea why he’d want to be on the grid if he wasn’t prepared to be asked something.“
The England squad looked relaxed on the grid, but it was clear the media interaction divided opinions. We will try to reach out to Bukayo Saka’s representatives for comment.
