The second season of the Fallout series on Prime Video has reignited interest in the iconic video game franchise. Steam data shows that Fallout 4’s concurrent players rose from an average of 20,000 to a peak of 44,000 on January 4.
Fallout 76 also saw a boost, driven by its recent Burning Springs expansion, reaching nearly 30,000 concurrent players. Meanwhile, Fallout: New Vegas doubled its usual player base, surpassing 19,000 concurrent users.
Although these numbers are below the 187,000 peak seen last year, the surge demonstrates renewed interest in the franchise, particularly among PC gamers. The series’ continued popularity shows how media adaptations can drive engagement with the games themselves.
Reports suggest that Microsoft may be preparing remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Documents related to the Activision Blizzard acquisition trial have mentioned Fallout 3 Remastered, indicating the company may be planning updates for these classic titles.
Fans, however, prefer deeper remakes rather than simple remasters. The recent success of Oblivion Remastered may serve as a model for Microsoft’s approach, but details on studios or graphic engines remain unknown.
Bethesda’s Todd Howard described Fallout as the company’s “most active franchise” currently, highlighting the series’ strong momentum. With the second season of the series and possible game remasters, the franchise is poised to balance nostalgia with modern gaming expectations.
