Exclusive: iPhone 17 Pro Gets New MagSafe Design With Opening for Apple Logo

A leaked photo reveals the iPhone 17 Pro will feature a redesigned MagSafe magnet layout. The change represents the first major modification to MagSafe design since its introduction.

New MagSafe Design Spotted

Leaker Majin Bu shared a photo showing alleged MagSafe magnet arrays for third-party iPhone 17 Pro cases. The new design differs significantly from current iPhone models.

Current iPhones with MagSafe use magnets arranged in a complete circle. The iPhone 17 Pro layout features an opening in the circular magnet arrangement.

Why the Change

The MagSafe redesign serves a specific purpose related to the iPhone 17 Pro’s physical changes. According to Majin Bu and fellow leaker Sonny Dickson, the Apple logo will be positioned lower on the iPhone 17 Pro models.

This logo repositioning results from a much larger camera bump on the new devices. The modified MagSafe design ensures the Apple logo remains fully visible when using updated MagSafe cases.

Compatibility Maintained

iPhone case manufacturing sources told Majin Bu that existing MagSafe accessories will remain compatible with iPhone 17 Pro models. This means current MagSafe chargers, wallets, and other accessories should work with the new phones.

The change appears to be purely aesthetic rather than functional. Users won’t need to replace their existing MagSafe accessories when upgrading to the iPhone 17 Pro.

Potential Charging Improvements

While the magnet layout change doesn’t improve functionality, separate rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Pro could offer faster MagSafe charging speeds. This would require a future version of Apple’s MagSafe Charger.

Current MagSafe charging maxes out at 15 watts for iPhones. Faster charging speeds would make wireless charging more competitive with wired options.

Design Implications

The leaked design reveals several things about the iPhone 17 Pro:

Larger Camera System
The need to move the Apple logo suggests a significantly larger camera bump than current models.

Aesthetic Priority
Apple prioritizes keeping the logo visible, showing attention to design details even in functional changes.

Backward Compatibility
The company maintains compatibility with existing accessories while making necessary design changes.

What This Means

The MagSafe redesign indicates Apple is making substantial changes to the iPhone 17 Pro’s rear design. The larger camera bump suggests significant camera improvements or additional sensors.

Moving the Apple logo lower on the device represents a notable design shift. Apple has maintained consistent logo placement across iPhone generations, making this change particularly significant.

Release Timeline

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to launch in fall 2025. The new MagSafe design will likely debut alongside other iPhone 17 series improvements.

Case manufacturers are apparently already preparing for the design change, suggesting the leak reflects Apple’s finalized plans rather than early concepts.

The redesigned MagSafe layout shows Apple continues evolving its wireless charging ecosystem while maintaining compatibility with existing accessories.
