A former television news anchor has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing and killing her 80-year-old mother at a home in Wichita, Kansas, authorities said.
Police were called to the residence at around 7:52 a.m. on Friday, October 31, following reports of a “cutting,” according to a statement from the Sedgwick County Police Department.
When officers arrived, they found 47-year-old Angelynn “Angie” Mock standing outside the home. Inside, they discovered her mother, Anita Avers, unresponsive in bed with multiple stab wounds. Avers was taken to a local hospital, where she later died.
Mock was also treated for undisclosed injuries before being taken into custody. She has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held at the Sedgwick County Jail on a $1 million bond, according to public records.
Authorities have not released a possible motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Mock previously worked as an anchor and reporter for Fox 2 in St. Louis between 2011 and 2015, according to her LinkedIn profile. She later worked in sales and was employed by a data management software company at the time of her arrest.
Police have not yet announced when Mock will make her first court appearance.
