Formula 1 heads to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez this weekend for the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix, the 20th round of the season. The race, held from October 24 to 26, will test drivers and teams in one of the most unique environments on the calendar.

The circuit spans 4.304 kilometres with 17 turns, and drivers will complete 71 laps on Sunday. The weekend follows the usual schedule: practice sessions on Friday, qualifying on Saturday, and the main race on Sunday.

High Altitude, High Demands

At more than 2,200 metres above sea level, the Mexico City circuit poses unusual technical challenges. The thin air reduces aerodynamic downforce and limits engine cooling, forcing teams to adjust setups for both performance and reliability. Managing tyre temperatures will also be key, as reduced air density affects grip and wear patterns.

Tyre supplier Pirelli has selected the C2 (hard), C4 (medium), and C5 (soft) compounds for this event, skipping the C3 entirely — a decision aimed at offering greater strategic variation.

Key Storylines

The championship battle remains tight, with the top contenders separated by narrow margins. A single mistake could have a major impact as the season enters its final stretch. Teams that adapt quickly to the thin air and nail their car setup early in the weekend will likely have the advantage.

The circuit’s long front straight provides overtaking opportunities, while the iconic Foro Sol stadium section promises intense fan energy and pressure for the drivers.

Fan Atmosphere and Conditions

The Mexico City Grand Prix has become one of Formula 1’s most vibrant events, blending racing with local culture and celebration. Warm weather and mostly clear skies are expected throughout the weekend, with little chance of rain — ideal conditions for both fans and competitors.

What’s at Stake

With only a few races left, performance in Mexico could play a decisive role in the championship fight. The circuit’s altitude and unique characteristics may cause unpredictable swings in form, giving an opportunity for surprise results.

Qualifying will be especially critical, as track position often dictates race outcomes on a circuit where overtaking can be challenging outside of the main straight.
