Electronic Arts (EA) is considering delaying its next Battlefield game to avoid competition from other major releases, including Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6). EA CEO Andrew Wilson said the company is willing to push back the launch if the timing is not right.
The new Battlefield is expected to arrive before April 2026. However, Wilson admitted in a financial call that competition in the gaming industry is intense this year. Other big titles like Borderlands 4, Mafia: The Old Country, Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yōtei, and Fable are all expected to launch around the same time.
Wilson explained that EA has invested more in this Battlefield game than ever before. He wants to make sure the game is released at the right time so it can grow its player base and live up to expectations.
“If we got close to that timeframe and believed that this wasn’t going to be a great window for us, then we would take a look at what an alternate window might be,” Wilson said.
Battlefield 2042, the last game in the series, received heavy criticism and became one of Steam’s worst-rated games. EA is now working hard to win back players. The new game will return to a modern setting with traditional classes and improved maps.
Four EA studios—DICE, Ripple Effect, Motive, and Criterion—are working on the project. The company has also introduced Battlefield Labs, a community testing program, to get feedback from players.
While EA is confident in the game’s progress, it does not want to rush its release. The company aims to avoid direct competition with GTA 6, which is set to launch in late 2025. Many publishers are waiting to see Rockstar’s final release date before making their own plans.
For now, EA is keeping its options open. If needed, it will delay Battlefield’s launch to give the game the best possible start.
