Drake Calls Leaked DM About UMG Lawsuit “Fake”

Drake has denied sending a direct message to celebrity stylist Chris Blake Griffith about his ongoing legal battle with Universal Music Group (UMG).

The alleged Instagram DM, posted by Griffith on January 7, 2025, claimed that Drake discussed his lawsuit against UMG, comparing his situation to Nike supporting LeBron James despite personal issues.

The message also suggested that Drake wanted to make the music industry safer for artists by challenging the label’s actions.

However, Drake quickly dismissed the message as fake. Through Akademiks, he stated on X (formerly Twitter), “This is a fake DM.

Drake called buddy a Rat….. he got mad and made up some fake DM to try to make the blogs and go viral. End of story,” adding, “Source – THE BOY.”

This comes amid Drake’s legal dispute with UMG. In November 2024, Drake filed two pre-action petitions against the music giant, accusing them of using streaming bots and payola to boost Kendrick Lamar’s song “Not Like Us.”

He also claims that UMG defamed him by allowing the release of a track that allegedly labels him a pedophile.

Drake’s legal battles are ongoing, with court hearings scheduled for January 13 and January 16, where he plans to pursue claims of illegal radio payments and other issues.
