Borussia Dortmund has announced that only players, coaches, and club officials will be allowed in the dressing room following an incident involving Jobe Bellingham’s father.
The move comes after Mark Bellingham confronted Dortmund’s sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, in the tunnel during a Bundesliga match against St. Pauli on August 23, 2025.
Jobe, who had joined the club from Sunderland for £26 million, was substituted at halftime after a quiet debut, completing all his passes but making little impact.
Mark Bellingham reportedly expressed his frustration over the substitution and requested to speak with head coach Niko Kovač. Dortmund managing director Lars Ricken described the discussion as emotional but not problematic, emphasizing the club’s commitment to maintaining professionalism in all areas.
The 3–3 draw against St. Pauli saw Dortmund surrender a 3–1 lead late in the game, adding to the disappointment surrounding the debut.
The incident has drawn attention to the challenges of managing family involvement in professional football, echoing past cases of parent-coach tensions in the sport.
Dortmund’s new rule aims to prevent similar confrontations in the future and reinforce a professional environment within the club’s facilities.
