Don’t Miss the 2024 Academy Award Nominee on Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video has just added one of the most highly praised films of 2024 to its library. Nickel Boys, directed by RaMell Ross, is a historical drama that earned a Best Picture nomination at the 97th Academy Awards.

The film also received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay and was recognized at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, where it earned a Best Motion Picture – Drama nomination.

Though Nickel Boys didn’t win any of its nominations, it remains one of the standout movies of 2024, with a strong 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie, based on the 2019 novel by Colson Whitehead, tells the story of two Black teens in a juvenile reformatory, focusing on their deep friendship and its transformative power.

Despite a modest box office return of $3.2 million from a limited release, Nickel Boys was not made with big box office returns in mind. Amazon MGM Studios made it available on Prime Video, where it’s now included for Prime subscribers.

Typically, the film costs $5.99 to rent or $19.99 to buy, but it’s currently free for Prime members, and even non-subscribers can access it through a 30-day free trial.

With a runtime of 140 minutes (2 hours and 20 minutes), Nickel Boys is streaming exclusively on Prime Video, alongside Apple TV+. The film has a PG-13 rating due to mature themes such as strong language, violence, smoking, and racism.
