Disney Hints at Fourth Marvel Film in 2028 Despite Earlier Focus on Fewer Releases

Disney announced that Marvel Studios is scheduled to release an untitled movie on December 15, 2028. This would be the fourth Marvel film planned for that year, joining previously announced movies set for February, May, and November 2028.

It is uncertain if all four films will actually release in 2028. Disney often holds release dates for films even if the movies are not ready, to keep those dates open for future projects. For example, Marvel’s Blade was originally set for November 2025 but was delayed to make room for another Disney film.

Disney CEO Bob Iger recently said that Marvel “lost a little focus by making too much” content and plans to reduce the number of releases to improve quality. Despite this, Marvel’s 2028 calendar looks busy with multiple films possibly coming out.

Looking ahead, Marvel has fewer films planned for 2026 and 2027. In 2026, they will release The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July, followed by Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. In 2027, two films are scheduled: an untitled movie in July and Avengers: Secret Wars in December, which is expected to conclude the Multiverse Saga.

After Secret Wars, Marvel plans to focus on stories involving the X-Men, acquired through Disney’s 2019 purchase of 20th Century Fox. Director Jake Schreier, who worked on Thunderbolts, is set to direct the MCU’s first mutant film. Other projects in development that may release in 2028 include Blade, Black Panther 3, and a Fantastic Four sequel.

While Marvel’s 2028 slate could be one of their busiest yet, fans will have to wait to see how many of these films make it to the big screen that year.
