Digg Relaunches with AI, Community, and Content Behind It—Here’s What’s New

Digg, once known as “the homepage of the internet,” is making a comeback, and its original founder, Kevin Rose, is leading the charge. After years of ownership changes and several pivots, Rose is teaming up with big names like Reddit’s Alexis Ohanian to relaunch the platform with a fresh focus.

This time, Rose and his team aim to create a new kind of social platform, one that emphasizes community, content, and the power of artificial intelligence (AI). The revamped Digg wants to build a more engaging, user-friendly environment compared to what is currently available on the internet.

In its early days, Digg was a popular site where users could share and vote on links. The new version will keep that basic concept but aims to go further by using AI to improve moderation, make content sorting easier, and even add fun features for users. One exciting idea is AI tools that can create unique community experiences, like turning a group’s messages into Klingon or automating moderation for inappropriate content.

Rose and Ohanian believe that AI could help tackle the tedious tasks typically handled by moderators, such as fighting spam or handling policy violations. With AI taking care of these tasks, moderators will be able to focus more on fostering positive community vibes.

The new Digg will also take a unique approach to rewarding users for their contributions. Instead of focusing on follower counts or the number of votes a post gets, Digg will try to recognize users for their insightful, encouraging, and creative content.

For now, the relaunch is still in its early stages, with the platform featuring a simple homepage, a few communities, and some links. However, Rose and his team are excited to grow Digg alongside its users, building something that truly meets their needs.
