Deezer Takes Action Against AI-Generated Music with New Detection Tool

Deezer, the French streaming service, has revealed that about 10% of the music tracks it receives daily are AI-generated.

This discovery comes from a new AI detection tool Deezer developed, which can identify music made by popular AI models like Suno and Udio. Deezer says around 10,000 AI-created tracks are delivered to its platform every day.

In response, Deezer is creating a tagging system to label these AI-generated tracks. The system will exclude them from algorithmic and editorial recommendations, ensuring that human-made music gets more visibility.

The tool, which Deezer filed patents for in December 2024, is designed to detect AI music from various sources. Deezer plans to expand the tool’s capabilities, aiming to identify AI music from nearly any model as long as it can access sample data. It also has plans to detect deepfake voices in the future.

Deezer is the first music streaming service to launch such a detection tool, addressing concerns from critics who worry that AI-generated music could flood platforms and harm human artists.

Major music companies, including Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, and Warner Music Group, have already taken legal action against AI music models like Suno and Udio, accusing them of copyright infringement.

Deezer’s CEO, Alexis Lanternier, emphasized the need for responsibility in using AI in music creation to protect the rights and revenue of artists.

Deezer’s chief innovation officer, Aurelien Herault, highlighted the tool’s ability to detect music from multiple AI models, making it more robust than other detection tools on the market.
