The future of The Batman universe is looking brighter than ever. In a recent interview, The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc confirmed that new spin-off shows connected to the hit 2022 film are already in the early stages of development.
Robert Pattinson’s The Batman opened the door to a gritty new Gotham City, and though the sequel film has faced delays and won’t begin filming until at least 2026, the universe remains alive through HBO’s The Penguin.
The show debuted in 2024 with eight episodes, gaining praise for Colin Farrell’s dramatic transformation as Gotham gangster Oz Cobb.
Now, with season two of The Penguin in the works, LeFranc has teased that more stories from this dark and complex world are on the way. Speaking to Deadline, she revealed that additional spin-offs are “in the early stages.”
While she didn’t confirm which characters the new series might follow, fans are already buzzing with excitement and speculation. On Reddit and Twitter, many are hoping to see series focused on Catwoman, Joker, or even Hugo Strange.
One fan wrote: “Loved The Penguin—this is exciting. Hopefully something Catwoman-related!” Another said, “The Penguin was fantastic, and I’d love for them to really expand and explore Gotham.”
Though it may be a while before we return to the big screen with The Batman Part II, these new developments promise that Gotham’s story is far from over.
