James Gunn has confirmed that the DC Universe (DCU) slate for 2027 will include unannounced projects and the return of at least one major series.
During a large Q&A session on Threads, Gunn answered fan questions about upcoming DC projects. He shut down several rumors, including claims about Wonder Woman casting, Grant Gustin returning as The Flash, and new Batman projects entering production before The Batman Part II is released.
When asked why only one DCU project appeared to be scheduled for 2027, Gunn pushed back, pointing out that The Batman Part II is already set for that year. He also explained that he will not release two Batman movies in the same year and that production timelines depend on when scripts are fully ready.
Creature Commandos Season 2 Likely for 2027
The biggest reveal came when Gunn was asked about Creature Commandos Season 2. Gunn responded that it was a possibility for 2027 and added, “CC and more yes,” strongly suggesting that more DCU content is planned beyond what has been announced.
This marks the first time Gunn has publicly suggested that Creature Commandos Season 2 could arrive as early as 2027.
What to Expect From the DCU in 2027
At this time, Gunn has only clearly confirmed two theatrical releases for 2027:
- Superman: Man of Tomorrow
- The Batman Part II (not part of the DCU, but still a major DC release)
Beyond theaters, Gunn hinted that animated series are the most likely DCU projects to release in 2027. In addition to Creature Commandos Season 2, other projects that could potentially arrive include:
- A Blue Beetle animated series
- A rumored Jimmy Olsen live-action series
- A possible Mister Miracle animated series
Gunn stressed that many rumors circulate online, and only projects he directly confirms should be considered real. While most 2027 plans remain unannounced, Gunn’s comments confirm that the DCU will not be quiet that year.
