Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said that AI tools like ChatGPT are now better than many doctors at diagnosing medical problems. He made this statement during a talk at a Federal Reserve event in Washington, D.C.
“ChatGPT is a better diagnostician than most doctors in the world,” Altman said. However, he added that people still go to doctors because they trust them and feel more comfortable getting care from a human.
Altman admitted that he personally would not rely only on AI for his health. “Maybe I’m a dinosaur,” he said, “but I still want a doctor involved.”
He also warned that AI’s ability to mimic human voices is becoming dangerous. He said voice-based login systems used by banks could soon be easily tricked by AI-generated voices. He called this risk “terrifying.”
Altman’s comments come as many people debate how AI should be used in sensitive areas like health and security. He believes AI can be very useful, but human trust and oversight are still necessary.
