Casio is bringing back its original G-Shock design with the new DW-5000R, a faithful recreation of the 1983 DW-5000C.
This launch celebrates 41 years of the G-Shock legacy, keeping the rugged charm that made it a global icon while adding modern upgrades.
A Nostalgic Design
The DW-5000R closely resembles the original G-Shock. Its case, buttons, and strap dimple positions mimic the 1983 model. However, the case size is slightly larger at 42.3mm compared to 41.6mm.
The backplate remains stainless steel, just like the original. The watch strap is now made with biomass plastic, reducing environmental impact.
Modern Features
Despite its retro look, the DW-5000R includes:
- An LED backlight for better visibility.
- Enhanced water resistance, listed as “20 BAR.”
- Classic functions like a stopwatch, alarm, and calendar.
Pricing and Availability
The G-Shock DW-5000R launches in Japan on December 13th for 33,000 yen (about $217). Global pricing and availability details are yet to be announced.
Casio’s DW-5000R blends history with modern technology, offering G-Shock fans a piece of nostalgia with updated features. Keep an eye out for international availability updates soon!
