Despite Resident Evil fans receiving some great news during the recent State of Play, it also left many feeling divided — and it’s easy to understand why.
Fans of Capcom’s legendary survival horror series were hoping that Resident Evil 9 (still not officially named) would be finally revealed, especially after its initial announcement back in July 2024.
Unfortunately, there was no mention of Resident Evil 9, which was disappointing for many. Still, hope remains with Summer Game Fest coming up this weekend.
On the brighter side, Silent Hill f got a gameplay reveal and release date, so fans of the horror genre had something to enjoy.
But here’s the big reveal: the original Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis are coming to PlayStation Plus Premium this summer — a huge win for retro gaming fans.
Until now, only Resident Evil: Director’s Cut was available in the PS Plus library, so the classic trilogy finally arriving is great news for those wanting to preserve the series on modern consoles.
That said, fans were quick to point out what’s missing — features like trophy support.
“It would be cool if Capcom implemented trophies, but based on the Director’s Cut, it’s unlikely,” said Redditor JCMGamer.
“I really hope these have trophy support. RE1 and Dino Crisis not having it is a shame,” added ViperKira.
“Please, Capcom, add trophies to the Resident Evil classics and Dino Crisis,” pleaded Mando316.
Another issue raised was whether previous PS3 purchases of these games would carry over for free access on PS5/PS4.
“I bought Director’s Cut for PS Vita and got it for free on PS5, so I’d say it’s very likely,” replied MusoukaMX.
There’s no exact release date yet for RE2 and RE3 on PS Plus, but with the announcement stating it will arrive this summer, the wait won’t be long.
