Activision Blizzard is aiming to win back fans’ enthusiasm with the next entry in the blockbuster Call of Duty franchise – Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. After the disappointing short campaign of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which lasted just 3.5 hours, Black Ops 6 promises an epic single-player experience from developer Treyarch.
Black Ops 6 will deliver a thrilling new chapter in the popular Black Ops subseries. Set during the Gulf War era, it will blend real historical events with fictional storytelling that the Black Ops games are known for. Saddam Hussein is rumored to be one of the main antagonists.
A full gameplay reveal is set for June 9th, 2024 at the Xbox Games Showcase event. While details are still limited, here’s what we know so far about Call of Duty: Black Ops 6:
Release Date & Platforms
An official release date has not been announced yet, but is expected to be revealed at the June 9th event. Black Ops 6 is confirmed for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. A Nintendo Switch version is also a possibility.
Gameplay
As a first-person shooter, the core run-and-gun gameplay will be familiar to Call of Duty fans. However, Black Ops 6 is rumored to be the first in the series to feature an open-world environment for the campaign mode.
The fan-favorite Zombies co-op mode will make a return, potentially with a classic round-based maps option that has been frequently requested. A new Warzone experience with new maps, weapons, and perks is also expected.
Day One on Xbox Game Pass
In a major move, Microsoft has confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will release directly into the Xbox Game Pass library on day one. This is likely to drive Game Pass subscriptions as a major yearly release arrives into the service at launch.
With an ambitious new take on the single-player campaign, the return of beloved multiplayer modes, and day one availability on Game Pass, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is shaping up to be one of the biggest games of the year. Stay tuned for the full reveal in early June.
