BTS Casting Director Shares Story Behind Jungkook’s Recruitment

BigHit’s former casting director Noh Min Mi has revealed how Jungkook became a member of BTS without ever auditioning. Speaking on the YouTube channel Kajufriends, Noh shared that she first noticed him at the age of 15 during his appearance on Superstar K.

“There were many casting directors present, but one boy caught my eye,” she recalled. “His eyes were bright, he looked adorable, and it felt like he was glowing. I was drawn to him as if by fate.”

Unlike the usual audition process, Noh acted quickly to secure Jungkook for BigHit. She handed him her card, contacted his father, and urged them to sign immediately, knowing that several agencies were also trying to recruit him. “Other companies were even waiting at Seoul Station,” she said. “But in the end, his father chose BigHit.”

Jungkook officially joined the company as a trainee at 15 and was announced as a BTS member in 2013, just before his 16th birthday.

Noh also spoke about BTS’s early struggles. She recalled how Suga’s smile and eyes first drew attention, but explained that at the time, no one in the industry noticed the group. “They practiced until their shoes wore out. That’s why I was certain they’d succeed,” she said.

Now global superstars, BTS still feel unchanged to her. “Despite being world stars, when we talk and laugh, I sometimes forget how famous they really are,” she added.

Jungkook has previously reflected on his trainee years, describing the challenges of being the youngest member. In a 2021 interview, he admitted he struggled with homesickness, strict training, and doubts about his role as the main vocalist. Over time, he said, support from his bandmates helped him grow into his position.
