British actor Tom Blyth is saying goodbye to his role as Billy the Kid in the third and final season of the MGM+ series.

Blyth, 30, has played the iconic outlaw since 2022. He told PEOPLE that the show helped launch his career. “Billy is the show that started off my career, really. So I’m very grateful to it and to the people who are involved,” he said.

Season 3, which premiered on September 28, shows a darker, more vengeful side of Billy. “By season 3, he’s still idealistic, but he wants to get back at the bad guys who have hurt his family and friends,” Blyth explained. “He’s a slightly dark superhero figure of the West.”

Blyth said the role allowed him to grow both as an actor and a person. “As I’ve matured and become more of a professional, so has the character of Billy. I feel like I’m growing up alongside him a little bit,” he said.

He also did about 90% of his own stunts, including horseback riding and action sequences. “It’s like old-school filmmaking,” Blyth said, adding that he hopes to continue doing physically demanding roles in the future.

Looking ahead, Blyth will appear in People We Meet on Vacation, a Netflix adaptation of Emily Henry’s novel, and he is interested in pursuing sci-fi projects.

New episodes of Billy the Kid drop Sundays on MGM+.
