The 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has been given an unexpected twist after mysterious wanted ads for Bill Skarsgård’s upcoming film Dead Man’s Wire appeared across the city.
The posters, designed in a gritty, old-fashioned style, describe Skarsgård’s character as a “dangerous fugitive.” Their sudden appearance has sparked speculation that the film may have a surprise screening, teaser, or promotional event during the festival, which runs from September 4–14.
Although Dead Man’s Wire is not listed among TIFF’s official 292-film lineup, the unconventional marketing campaign has caught the attention of festivalgoers and social media users. Fans on X have shared photos of the ads, with some describing them as “noir vibes” and others predicting that Skarsgård’s role could be “his wildest yet.”
The film is rumored to be a high-octane thriller about a rogue operative entangled in betrayal and conspiracy. Skarsgård, known for It and Barbarian, is expected to take on another intense role, though the director and full cast remain unconfirmed.
TIFF 50 is marking its milestone year with world premieres such as I Like Me, a John Candy documentary, as well as high-profile screenings including Park Chan-wook’s No Other Choice and Olivier Assayas’ The Wizard of the Kremlin.
Whether the Dead Man’s Wire ads signal a secret premiere or a marketing stunt, they have already added intrigue to the festival and positioned the film as one of the most talked-about surprises of TIFF 2025.
