Actor Zoe Saldaña has become the highest‑grossing performer in box office history, according to updated industry figures released this week. The milestone places her above all other actors based on the combined worldwide earnings of films she has appeared in.
The record was secured following the success of Avatar: Fire and Ash, which has earned $1.23bn globally since its release in December 2025. The film forms the latest entry in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise, in which Saldaña plays the character Neytiri.
Much of Saldaña’s box office total comes from her roles in two of cinema’s most successful franchises. Alongside Avatar, she has played Gamora in several Marvel films, including the Guardians of the Galaxy series and the Avengers films Infinity War and Endgame.
Her combined box office total is estimated at more than $15.5bn, pushing her ahead of former record holders Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson. Johansson briefly held the top position following the release of Jurassic World Rebirth in 2025.
Industry analysts note that Saldaña’s lead may continue to grow. Further Avatar sequels are already in development, which could add significantly to her career total over the coming years.
The achievement has drawn widespread attention online, with fans pointing to the cultural significance of Saldaña becoming the first actress to top the all‑time box office ranking. The industry has increasingly recognised franchise‑driven performances in recent years as a key measure of commercial success.
