A$AP Rocky Returns With ‘Don’t Be Dumb’ After 8 Years

A$AP Rocky has officially returned to music with his new album Don’t Be Dumb, released today, January 16, 2026. This ends nearly eight years since his last project, 2018’s Testing.

The album has already made waves as an “art-house” rap record. Rocky drew heavy inspiration from German Expressionism and worked closely with legendary filmmaker Tim Burton, who designed the cover art.

Composer Danny Elfman, known for The Nightmare Before Christmas and Batman, scored several tracks, giving the album a cinematic and haunting feel.

Don’t Be Dumb features 15 tracks, with bonus digital tracks bringing the total closer to a double-disc experience. Guest appearances include Tyler, The Creator; Gorillaz; Westside Gunn; Brent Faiyaz; Doechii; Jon Batiste & Thundercat; and Pharrell Williams & will.i.am.

The album broke pre-save records with 1 million Spotify pre-saves, a historic milestone for a rap release. Rocky also released the album on January 16 to mark “National Nothing Day,” jokingly acknowledging the long wait fans endured.

Early fan favorites include “Order of Protection,” “Punk Rocky” (whose video features Winona Ryder), and “Helicopter$.” Critics are already praising the album’s cinematic style and ambitious production.

However, Rocky may face challenges on the charts. Billboard no longer counts YouTube streams, which historically made a big impact for his visual-heavy releases. Without YouTube views, his chart position will rely on Spotify, Apple Music, and strong physical sales.

Reports indicate over 130,000 physical units have been moved pre-release, showing that fans are still highly engaged despite the chart changes. Don’t Be Dumb marks a bold and cinematic return for A$AP Rocky, blending music, film, and high-profile collaborations in a way few artists attempt.
