Arijit Singh Quits Playback Singing but Not Music, Confirms in Emotional Note

Arijit Singh has announced his retirement from playback singing, surprising fans across the country. The singer said he will no longer take new assignments as a playback vocalist but will continue making music in other ways.

In a note shared on his social media account, Arijit thanked listeners for their love and support over the years. He described his journey as a playback singer as “wonderful” and said music will always remain a part of his life.

“I am happy to announce that I am not gonna be taking any new assignments as a playback vocalist from now on,” he wrote. He added that he wants to learn more and create music on his own as an independent artist.

Arijit clarified that he still has some pending commitments. He said fans may hear a few new releases this year as he completes those projects. He also made it clear that he is not quitting music altogether.

Over the years, Arijit Singh became one of the most successful playback singers in Indian cinema. His songs include Tum Hi Ho, Channa Mereya, Agar Tum Saath Ho, Kesariya, Gerua, Khairiyat, and Chaleya, among many others.

The singer has won two National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer. He received the honour for Binte Dil from Padmaavat and Kesariya from Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva.

As of January 2026, Arijit Singh is the most-followed artist on Spotify globally, with over 169 million followers. His retirement from playback singing marks the end of an era for Bollywood music, even as his musical journey continues.
