Apple is preparing to release a second-generation AirTag in mid-2025, with significant improvements focused on addressing privacy concerns that have plagued the current model.

According to tech analyst Mark Gurman, the new device will be designed to be more difficult to tamper with, specifically making it harder to remove the internal speaker.

The upcoming AirTag comes in response to ongoing issues with potential stalking and unauthorized tracking. While Apple has already implemented features like sound alerts to notify individuals of unknown AirTags nearby, the current model remains relatively easy to disable by removing its speaker.

In addition to privacy enhancements, the new AirTag is expected to receive technical upgrades. These include improvements to wireless connectivity and tracking range. Visually, the device is anticipated to maintain a similar design to the existing AirTag.

The development reflects Apple’s ongoing commitment to addressing user safety concerns surrounding its tracking technology.

By making the device more tamper-proof, the company aims to reduce potential misuse while maintaining the AirTag’s utility for legitimate tracking purposes.
